Harley Releases New Model For 2012, Introducing the Dyna Switchback

Harley-Davidson has long produced high-end bikes, but the 2012 model year will see the advent of a totally new kind of motorcycle in the Dyna Switchback. Previously, customers have had to choose between different functions in their bikes; a touring motorcycle would be bulkier with saddlebags and storage, while a sleek road bike would not have the necessary storage space for longer trips. The Dyna Switchback aims to provide the best of both worlds, with a fully modifiable frame that allows for the customer to completely customize the riding experience each time he or she takes to the road. Read on for a brief overview of this exciting new model.
Overview of the Dyna Switchback
The standard model of the Dyna Switchback is that of a custom touring model, with color-matching hard saddlebags and a fork-mounted windshield. However, these items can be removed in a matter of seconds, without tools. Then, the motorcycle is transformed into a custom street cruiser that sports a mini-ape handlebar and gleaming headlamp nacelle. This provides the ultimate flexibility for the bike so that it can be used appropriately in all types of driving situations.

Motorcycle Specs
The Twin Cam 103 V-Twin engine is featured prominently in the Dyna Switchback. With a 1690 cc capacity, this engine is rated to 100 pound-feet of torque at 3500 rpm. This engine is also a crucial reason why the Dyna Switchback is the lightest weight of any of the custom touring motorcycles in Harley’s lineup. The bike is ready to ride at just 718 pounds, almost 100 pounds lighter than the Harley-Davidson Road King. The low-profile front end and tire, as well as premium suspension system components, ensure that the bike is excellent at handling and that it provides a smooth, cushy ride on any road surface.
Appearance and Aesthetic Specs
There is a 2-in-1 muffler system to provide a deep, rough muffler sound. The detachable hard saddlebags are color-matched and feature up to 30 pounds of storage. Wheels in the front are 18 inches and in the back are 17 inches, and each wheel is a black aluminum 5-spoke variety. The motorcycle is also plated with chrome in several different spots, including on the headlamp, the fork and rear shock covers, and the tank console and ignition switch. The seat is a one-piece two-up model that features custom stitching detail, and is designed for a flat-foot stop for most riders.
Harley-Davidson has taken care to make sure that the Dyna Switchback provides both the flare and style of a street cruiser with the comfort and handling of a touring motorcycle. Riders will be happy and comfortable spending an entire day on the bike, and the customizable features ensure that your bike will always have the appropriate look, no matter where you are or where you’re going.
