Now, You might think that the first Harley to grace the streets of Milwaukee–“tomato can” carb and all–would be the most important. I disagree.

The first bikes were important, as the JD’s of the 1920’s also were. But I’m going with the first overhead valve V-Twin produced by the Motor Company as most important. The Flathead motors were limited by their design, as only so much power could be developed due to the side valve and lower compression. The overhead valve design of the Knucklehead motor opened up new doors for performance enthusiasts.

Also they were more efficient and made more power than the Flatheads–plus the Knucklehead motors were just plain cool looking!
