Senior Citizen Gets Her First-Ever Harley Ride
After 30 years of listening to stories about Harley rides, Bertilla Mullenbach decided she wanted to take one of her own.
For most of us, heading out on a nice day and enjoying our bikes is a foregone conclusion. At least when pesky things like work and honey-do lists don’t get in the way. But it never ceases to amaze us how many people have never had the chance to ride. In many cases, it’s simply a matter of life getting in the way. Which is a shame, because those poor folks that have never slung their leg over a Harley just don’t know what they’re missing.
It’s a simple pleasure that Rochester, New York resident Bertilla Mullenbach got to enjoy for the first time in her life recently. But Mullenbach isn’t just your average newbie – she’s lived an incredible 103 years without knowing the joy of riding on a motorcycle. In all fairness, she never really thought about it until her dentist of 30 years, Fred Carlson, would tell her stories of his own travels on his Harley. And he went so far as to invite Mullenbach to take a ride with him one day.
It was an offer that she didn’t forget. In fact, at her very next appointment, Mullenbach asked when the ride was going to happen. Carlson seemed a little surprised that she would actually take him up on the offer. “I said, ‘Do you still want to ride?’ And she says, ‘Yeah, but I don’t want to put you out and be an imposition on you,'” Carlson told the Post Bulletin.
Word of the ride spread quickly, and a small crowd showed up to witness the leather clad rookie’s inaugural outing. And it’s safe to say that she loved every minute of it. “I just forgot my age entirely,” Mullenbach said. “I didn’t even think about it. We couldn’t have had a more perfect morning.”
