Throwback Thursday: Harley Dealer Ad
Throwback Thursday! Talk about selling motorcycles and invariably the adage “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” will pop up. Today it means major teams with massive marketing machines behind them running in World Championship level racing. In the early days it was the local dealer, sometimes with a hired rider sometimes the owner, racing the bikes they sold.
This ad in particular covers all of the bases. They went racing, they won the race, the offered test rides to any and all. Not only did they win, they finished first and second with perfect scores while completing 340 miles of riding over roads that in 1912 were not smooth or paved. That’s another wonderful advertising boon, showing the reliability. Brilliant marketing and loads of fun with this ad.
