Wild Sidecars We Found On the Roads

Sidecars have been around for a long time, some place its inception around the late 1800’s. To see the sidecar in the USA is pretty rare, unlike in Europe where they are widely used.  To see a sidecar is to know that this rider likes to keep a companion with them. It also brings a feeling of nostalgia and usually a smile will creep across someone’s face when they come across one.  The benefits of a sidecar just aren’t having a buddy or four legged companion with you, it improves stability, and it won’t let the attached motorcycle fall over even on slippery roads! Sidecars are also a chance to express more of the motorcycle rider’s personality. Sometimes this comes out in a rather absurd fashion depending on the owner. Here are some wild sidecars we found on the roads.

1. A little car on the side

You want a motorcycle and she wants a car, what is a couple to do? Easy, get this sidecar and have the best of both worlds. You get the open air and feel of the world while she has the convenience of being in an enclosed structure where she can sit with a friend or perhaps a young one while you pilot them to the destination. This one is a Watsonian sidecar that looks as spiffy as it does spacious.

2. Have drums will travel

The owner of this setup motorcycle decided they either wanted some musical accompaniment to their drive or a thoughtful way for a companion to practice a drum routine while being shuttled around.  We have no further info on this setup, but this is a definite way to beat the traffic.

3. Best friend riding shotgun

Not only does this rider provide a place for his four-legged friends but he also went the extra step of getting some pooch friendly goggles to protect their eyes for when things get ruff on the road.  

4. Urban soldier

From riding in enemy territory to just wanting to make out with the best deals on Black Friday? Here is the sidecar for you complete with camo paint for easier getaways. We are not condoning gunning down your fellow man, but the intimidation factor may be the difference between getting that 4K television and going home empty handed.

5. Faster times

This type of sidecar is for speed runs and not for inspecting the job that the gardener did last time he came by. Unfortunately, this quick setup is not road legal since it would make maneuvering a lot faster is not the safest with traffic around.

6. Thomas the Tank Engine

This fellow or maybe his grandson is definitely a fan of the show that gives life to locomotives and his train kin. It does look like a fun way to transport a tiny human or maybe a few things while you run errands. I am just thrown off by the painted face on the little engine’s front. Is there an accident on the road coming up that we can’t see?

7. Groovy bread loaf

I imagined that while bopping down the road the sounds of Sgt. Pepper or something from the Grateful Dead is emanating from the bike’s speakers. This looks like a really fun nostalgic piece of Americana to put alongside your bike as you make your way to and fro.
