Default Home grown external breather

Here's my take on the external breather:

Decided to go "up" over the engine

Here it is installed on the engine:

Here it is with the AC cover installed; all but disappears!

Okay, here's the other side....see the breather line???

See it now???

Close up of the catch can. Pretty well hidden, but looks nice if it's spotted.

Did that this morning and installed a fuel moto header pipe. Next up wire in the PV2. Harley projects just keep piling up!!!

I tried this method & found after a few thousand miles the oil would pool & leak inside the breather. The air vapor & water would drip from the drain hose, but the oily sludge would not. I hope your method works better then mine did.

I honestly don't think "up" is the answer, in order for the oil to seep, it is going to have to fill the mounts, hose, connector....

Also, is your can vented? Can't tell from the pic, if it's not vented, it will build pressure and blow something loose, probably the hose.

Yep, can is vented. Has an internal sponge filter to capture oil mist and water vapor. Since "oil" is not pumped through the breather, rather an oil mist along with water vapor and air, it should function satisfactorily. Interesting on how some of the after market kits I've seen use hard pipe going up from one head and then over to the other and vent from just one head via a banjo fitting. Well, if for some reason it doesn't work, I guess I'll be going another route!

I figured the can was vented.

I would be interested to see what the chamber looks like with a breather bolt removed after a thousand miles or so.

I ran my vent up and out similar to the way the op has it , no problems in the 10k miles I put on the SG.

I never said it would cause a problem...

I said I would like to see what the chamber with the breather bolt looks like.

Reckon if it gets full enough, it will just run back into the head.

It probably won't run back into the head because of the umbrella valve but it's definitely going to fill with oil at some point which still isn't a problem really.
I figure the pressure will push air bubbles or whatever through the oil since the standing oil isn't under any pressure itself.

I've been wanting to do mine the same way because no one likes looking at those lines going down the sides of the cylinders. Hope these guys report back how it's working in a few before I get to it.
