Default oil cooler leaks

First off, let me introduce myself, Marc here and I bought my first HD last Fall after owning
4 Yamahas and 1 Suzuki. Ultra Classic, black w/some chrome added. Pipes are stock and
leaving it that way. My last bike was an 08 roadstar, put 20k on her. Great bike but did not
like vibration at hiway speeds. Also wanted more comfort 2 up. Without doubt this
bike is head/shoulders over previous bikes.

Anyway at 3400 miles I just discovered an oil leak and found out it is something to do with
the oil cooler. I have not picked it up yet to get the details. Has anyone
else seen this? Hopefully it is an isolated incident.

Ultra Limited here. No oil cooler but I am happy to report after 4,400 miles no water leaks on mine.

Maybe an oil line is not attached securely to the cooler.

I'm aware that the limited has no oil cooler. However as far as I know the UC, the RK and the
SG/SGS have the same engine, 103 w/oil cooler. The service guy said something was either
cracked or porous. Just curious if anyone else had same issue. I hope it is a defective part and not
a design issue. I am not sure how long HD has been putting oil coolers on their engines.

The oil cooler spins on the oil filter housing. If the filter is overtightened, then when it is removed it can spin the oil cooler and tear the gasket between the housing and the cooler. The gasket is $5 from the dealer and they have plenty...guess why.

I fit a socket and a rag between the frame and the oil cooler to keep it from turning when removing the filter. No problems yet.

Poor design but a PIA when someone over tightens the filter.
