2014 Ultra Limited Value
I might have totaled my bike. Does anyone have any idea how adjusters determine the value of a totaled bike? I just want to be prepared for the shock if it happens. Thanks.

Yeah, I was thinking trade in value. Don't know about the frame, yet. It's still in the wrecker yard. Wreck was yesterday and I just saw it today and it was worse than I thought it was going to be. Thanks!

BUT State Farm gave me full retail on my 2000 Silverado they totaled 3 years ago.
Way more than I would have ever got on a trade in.

They should give you replacement value. In other words, the price they give you should allow you to go out and buy the same bike.
Here is an old trick we use to use in the auto business. Let's say they tell you $10000. Say - that's a great price. Now all you have to do is find one just like mine and deliver it to me. Plus remember -and folks forget this...you are entitled to the taxes too.

Thanks. It definitely could have been a lot worse. I'm a little banged up, but I'll be fully recovered in a few months when I get back into the saddle again.

Glad it wa no worse and you’re going to be okay. Look at the tab where the top of the highway bars attach to the frame. If that little tab is bent, believe it or not, it’s usually totaled. I know of two people who have had the misfortune of bending that tab. One hit a car in the rear, and the other simply caught the highway bar on a gas station post pulling away from the pump. The latter had no visible damage other than a bent highway bar, but because that tab was bent it required a new frame. The only reason it wasn’t totaled was because the guy owns a bike shop. I don’t know how he worked it out with the insurance company, but he ordered a new frame from Harley via a dealer and had his guys do the work, so there was no labor charge involved.
