HD amp?
I was thinking about having the dealer install the HD amp. Do I also need to change the speakers, or can I keep them ? Also, I see a lot of you guys going
With other brand amps?

Before you waste money on the HD boom crap, take a trip over to the audio forum and look at the audio upgrade sticky for the 2014's. At least so you research your options prior to purchase. If you do decide to go the HD BOOM route don't pay the dealer to install it. It's a very simple install.
I rode with the Boom amp and stock speakers for a while and it sounded good. Later I just replaced the rear speakers with the 6.5's and that made it sound great. They really filled in the lower frequencies. I think the difference in sound with the rear speakers was well worth the extra $200.
There seems to be a lot of haters towards the Harley upgraded speakers and amp. I have the system in my CVO and really like it. It sounds way better than the system I had on my Goldwing, and that was also a 300 watt amp but with smaller Polk speakers. The upgrade is pricey at about $1,000, but it is significantly louder and clearer than the stock system. It's also designed to fit perfectly which is a bonus!

I wouldn't call myself a "Hater" either. I'm an educated consumer. I just can't bring myself to spend WAY more money on cheaply made, overpriced, and underperforming components, just because they say Harley on them and are "plug and play."
Exactly. Plus the $$$ install cost of $95/hr. For around 300-400 you can have a system that will beat the pants off of the HD Boom upgrade.

I could not find actual specs on the Boom amp, but it is 75 watts per channel (RMS I believe) with little to no distortion at high volumes. I'm guessing it's a class D amp which allows for smaller packages and cooler operating temps. The best part is, it's plug and play and was designed to be mounted with the stock head unit. I normally wouldn't recommend a factory amp as an upgrade, but for a specialty vehicle with limited space, the HD Boom amp works well.
If anything, the speakers are where one could really improve the system. I'm happy with the Boom speakers in my CVO, but I have no doubt someone makes a better sounding speaker for less money. There are hundreds of 6.5" speaker options that would work!
