If anything, the speakers are where one could really improve the system. I'm happy with the Boom speakers in my CVO, but I have no doubt someone makes a better sounding speaker for less money. There are hundreds of 6.5" speaker options that would work!
Is that the standard boom speakers or the upgraded Boom speakers ?
While I'm new to Harley audio, I find it very hard to believe any $300-$400 aftermarket option will sound better than the Boom amp/speaker upgrade.
Well believe it. There's scores of us that have done so over in the audio section. Head over there and you'll see. Plus if you have the CVO, you already have the absolute best HD has to offer in audio. There is no BOOM upgrade for you.
There seems to be a lot of haters towards the Harley upgraded speakers and amp. I have the system in my CVO and really like it. It sounds way better than the system I had on my Goldwing, and that was also a 300 watt amp but with smaller Polk speakers. The upgrade is pricey at about $1,000, but it is significantly louder and clearer than the stock system. It's also designed to fit perfectly which is a bonus!
No haters.. You like what you like and I like what's better. BA is simply crap for quality, that's all there is to it. But with that said, it's crap to ME. You may well enjoy the sounds of what you have and yes I agree they've made strides in the sound quality into the 14 models with the 6.5 Infotainment but again, IMO it doesn't even compare to other stuff out there.
I'll also agree that the major thing to consider is warranty. If you want only HD working on your bike, then by all means stroll right up to that parts counter and plunk down your hard earned $ for that BA stuff and schedule your service appointment to have it installed.
And when you leave that dealership on your way home grinning from ear to ear about your newfound "jam system" and pull up to the stop light wondering where the hell is that music coming from, heard way above the sound level of your hefty investment, just look a few cars up and you'll likely see me there with a BIG smile on my face, foot tapping and head shaking.

Well I am here to share that in my opinion the BOOM System can not even compare to the 700.00 investment in my system which consists of Focal 165 KRC and an Arc Audio Amp.. Guaranteed to blow away BOOM *&^%...
As Ultra pointed out, not haters here and certainly would not bash those that install a HD BOOM Plug and Play, just folks with a quality system that will rock your system and then some. Remember this, Volume does not always equal quality.. Volume and Quality ROCKS!!!
So the system I got from soundzcustomz I would call plug in play. Simply I did not have to cut or splice any wire to install it. I plugged it all up to existing connectors.

Excellent option for those not interested in a little cutting and splicing. At least you'll be getting good audio components.
I spent just over $700 on my system and was sitting at the local dealer next to someone who just had the Boom Audio installed. When he heard mine he was wondering why his didn't sound as loud and clear as mine. He asked me what I was running and what did I pay for it. When I told him he was immediately upset because he knew he had wasted his money. There are better options than spending 1K plus on the Boom Audio and produce better/clearer sound. Boom Audio isn't bad but it isn't great either. But to each his own.
before i started looking into adding an amp and new speakers i called my harley dealer to see how much the boom amp and speakers cost. when he said 1k i laughed and hung up on him. after doing alot of research and asking alot of questions i added the setup below and i am more than happy with what i have all for $400
