2018 Heritage with Viking Tour Pack
I added the tour pack from Viking bags. Had to add the HD rack and docking hardware too, of course.
Here are some pictures of how it turned out. I can't decide if I like it or not. I think it might be fine when actually on a trip but a little too big for the bike on a day to day basis. Perhaps a smaller version would look better. What do y'all think? https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...b4be96a4e5.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...a7430ec4c8.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...e673cc7250.jpg |
I have the Harley pack, waiting on the rack to install. That Viking pack looks like it will hold quite a bit more, and I think it looks good. I do plan on leaving mine on the bike. For the price of the Viking I may have to get one for longer trips.

Take it off!
When you take a trip, put it on! |
I’m a function over form guy, so I like it.
|
Can it be moved forward and used as rider backrest like the Harley version? If so, can you take a picture in that configuration. I can’t find a photo of the solo seat with tour pack anywhere. Thanks

I think it looks fine, and usefull.

Dave - just put the same trunk on my 15 HSC, looks good - I got the chrome studs & am going to put those on so the trunk mimics the style of the bike.
Viking did a good job on these trunks - less than half what HD wanted & if you were able to get the 15% discount, what a price!!!! I'm going to try & put rear armrest on it but upon removing the passenger backrest pad I'm not sure if I can - kinda strange set up that pad & the way it mounts - 3 bolts with a rubber mount assembly???? Looks good, ride safe |
Looks good to me. Its nice to have space to put stuff in.
|
Functional, but I don't like the look personally. I like the Heritage best with NO BAGS, No WINDSHIELD for day to day riding.

Agree with your assessment, looks too big and is ugly but when on the road 2 up should hold a lot of stuff.

Looks useful for travel; liking your bike:)
|
Thanks guys!
Some like it, some don't. That's fine. Just wanted to be sure it wasn't universally disliked. Lol! I might still get something smaller for daily use but I really like having a place for my helmet when I stop. I carry lots of stuff and like having room for all of it inside a case of some type. Dartconv64 as stated, this rack doesn't allow the pack to be moved up. LXT how about a pic of yours? |

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...876d2ba2be.jpg Not the best pictures, its a balmy 16 degrees here & my garage is cramped, 2 bikes & a muscle car - not that I'm complaining but working on anything is tough - need a bigger garage. funny when I added on to the house it was all about the Kitchen & living space - should of been about the garage....! |
Case looks good on your bike!
More garage! Went to friend's for dinner Sat. He has a 2 car attached garage and just added another 2 car detached garage. So jealous. |
its not horrible.... holds 36% more and half the price too.

Ill see how good it looks when I put the chrome studs on - hopefully I don't mess it up? the thing about putting stuff like that on is measure 100 times, be patient, use tape - walk away & come back later to make sure everything still looks straight & then have at it..... LOL Ill see how good I take my own advice. Ill post some pics when done - unless I mess it up |
Nice....
I like the look. I as well am buying the Viking trunk & saving over $350 compared to the smaller HD version. Surdyke sells the tour pack rack and disconnect hardware and you will save over $50 compared to Harley Online store for the same parts. I also bought the rack for a solo rider and will serve as a back rest.
I like the bike without the pack for a sleek look(mine is set-up as a solo, no passenger pillion), but it looks nice when on & is great/must have for traveling packing & camping. |
I think if you put the HD Tour Pak next to the Viking Trunk they are pretty much the same size.
I was going with the Viking Trunk until I ran across my HD Tour Pak with mount at a yard sale. Mine stays on the bike all the time except during a wash. As for the look; well as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...4620a4d71a.jpghttps://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...34d8aed816.jpg |
I like the size but would remove it when not in use.
|
Can't blame you on getting the HD especially finding at garage sale with the mount. Studs matching looks Good!

Just received parts for quick disconnect docking system, solo tour-pak rack, Viking leather tour-pak & finished installing. I am happy with the way it turned out and matches well!
|
Looks nice. You are ready to go. What is the sound system you have on the front handlebars? How does it sound?
|
Ill have to post a pic of my completed Viking tour pack with the chrome dots installed. What a PITA, I bought the studs from HD 1/2 inch, Ill post a pic of one of em & the finished product.
I took the backrest pad off the trunk & went to an upholstery guy (hard to find here) & he wouldn't touch it to put the studs on - he gave me a price of $150 & then said he really doesn't wanna do it, so I took it home & did it myself. Ill try & post tomorrow with details. Nice bikes!!!! |
Lexin Audio LX-S4(formerly Shark Speakers). I have had these speakers on 2 other Softails and love them as they are marine grade and 100% waterproof. Great sound and can hear at 80+ mph. The quality of your music is important factor and I found a great app for smart phone that boosts my output from my phone when using blue toothe connection...gotta be careful though if boost too high can blow your phone speakers:) Cost if you shop around on Amazon or EBay is around $278-299.
|
Quick note forget to let you know the install is a little tricky but do able as the wiring harness for speakers is massive and the speakers are connected. Impossible to mount under tank, but can put under console....and then only run one cord(power cord) under the leather pad that leads from console to seat.

well wouldn't you know it, yesterday its 55 degrees & today 30 degrees with a snow storm a coming.
So, above is the Viking trunk that I put the chrome studs on to mimic the OEM trunk, what a PITA, those studs have 2 ears as hopefully you can see in the picture. the hard part was getting the spacing & then when you came to a stitched part the ears almost weren't long enough. An older gentleman who does a lot of leather work (saddlery shop) told me not to use a drill bit as the leather is clad over fiberglass & what happens is the fiberglass clogs the furrow of the bit causing the leather to catch & spiral up the bit. he showed me a tool he used but I just mimicked it with a ring shank nail & cut the head off it - worked great. I took my time with it & did a little here n there in the evenings. all in all the chrome studs which I bought 100 of em cost $26-$27. The trunk backrest pad - I took my time & worked the glue loose & just used painters tape to make the arch & followed it with 1 inch intervals, some gorilla glue to the leather / vinyl backing hold for a few minutes & done. so I saved over $300 & got the same look - now my wife jokes that I should bedazzle for a living - LOL |
Almost forgot - got the Mustang seat with rider backrest, so now the bike has the whole look going on like it should, Ill try to get a total shot of the bike when the weather breaks & that way all sides can be seen. sucks one day you ride then put it up for snow - repeat process, the northern way!

its not an 18 Kenny55, that's a 15 - however I did hear from the Mustang rep at my dealer that mustang should have seats for the 18`s by august????
|
Dave, I have the Viking bag still in the box and noticed that the mounting bolts they include are too stout to fit in the cutouts on the Harley mounting rack. I'm wondering if you bought new bolts and if so, what the size was - or did you use the "rails" from Viking to mount the tour-pak?
Thanks, Steve |
Steve
I honestly don't remember if I used the bolts that came with it or if I bought different ones. I just went out and looked and see that I have four bolts with Fender washers both in side the case and under the rack. I don't recall drilling any holes in the rack so I'm guessing I just used the bolts that came with it but, that is just a guess. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck.David |
looks fine...
|
Thanks, David; turns out I also need to buy the rear docking point attachments so I'll ask my dealer about the bolt situation.
Merry Christmas, Steve |
That looks good. I picked up a used, studded Harley one this year for my bike. Thought I would only use it when I needed more storage. Has not been off the bike since I installed it. So much more convenient to throw things in the trunk than it is the the bags.
|
Looks fine to me, that's the one I will buy when I'm ready.
|
I think it looks a little large with out a driver or passenger but may look different going down the road. I think a razor size would look sharp for day to day. Thar being said you can’t see it when you are riding and it’s very handy. It’s your bike and you will likely get normalized to it soon either way. I just bought a leather version for my Road King and hope it looks good. |
