Take it slow and easy. Anyway, as a suggestion, where the SG is lower, if you had 3 pieces of 2x6x12" approximately you can roll your scoot up onto the 2 by's and put another piece under the jiffy stand. You now have additional clearance to get under the frame. Your drain plug is on the front left corner of the pan and ideally positioned for draining on the jiffy stand.
on my 98 RKC the service maual has no pics of location of the different drain plugs - which one is the oil ? it salys to remove the plug from the oil pan - but I can't tell the difference between the trans and engine.
I'm getting an 09 SG delivered next week, is it any different from my 02 RK? The reason I asked is I once read someone saying that the oil will drip on the frame if you drain it on the jiffy stand. I bought the manual, but they had to order it too.

You are gonna get oil on the scoot no matter how careful you are. Oil changes are messy to begin with.
I just did my 08 RK for the first time, it's easy. Get everything you need first, including a new O-ring for the drain plug. I did mine on a lift with no problem. You'll probably need the filter wrench, it's about $23 or so.
You might need to brush dried sealant out of the plug threads, apparently dealerships use some kind of dope when they change oil.
You're supposed to put the plug back in to a specified torque, there's been a lot of discussion about whether or not it's really necessary on these boards. Tight but not too tight, using the tq wrench is a sure thing.

Thanks, I've been changing oil everything from lawn mowers to airplanes all my life, so I understand. You don't know messy until you've change the oil in a DC 3. I'm just curious if the 09 is different from my 02.

I've read this before. I don't recall it in my 02 manual and I've never use any kind of sealant on drain plugs except on the 02 primary. I've never had a problem with drain plug leaking and I usually check pretty often. Is it standard procedure for dealership?
