Putting together the system is no problem. Like I said the problem is not knowing everything I need. I would hate to buy several parts and then during the installation find out that I am missing something and a job that should have took an afternoon ends up taking a week or longer waiting on missing materials.

As far as the budget goes I was willing to spend a little over $1000 on one of the kits but if I could get better quality for cheaper I wouldn't complain about that either.

I appreciate all the help.

I am having the exact same problem as you,
What all do we need and want and were to get it, a sticky list would be very handy, I do not know about you but I have spent many hours trying to find out what I need and then were to find it and get quality parts.
From what I have found is we need.
Amp mount
power wires
Power wire fuse ( what size ? )
high to low RCA
6.5 speaker adaptors
fairing sound padding

Are we missing anything ? and anyone have suggestions on were to get them.
For me I have a 13 street glide and plan to run a Aquatic head unit with a moto 600.4 amp and DD speakers and tweeters.

The reason I was looking at those two was because it seems like they offered kits that had everything I needed. I am not against piecing together parts but my problem is that I don't know what parts to get. I have searched all over and can't seem to find a "shopping list" of parts if you will. Several different speakers and amps are mentioned but not the other things that I will need to do the install.

I have a 2013 Ultra Classic and I am wanting to get an amp and change out the speakers in my fairing and install some speakers in the lowers. I could change out the speakers in the rear pods too but it's not as important since my wife says most of what she hears comes from the front anyway.

I know this is kind of a broad question but could someone point me in the right direction to start piecing together a new set?
You're gonna need:

1. 6.5 speaker adapters
2. 8 gauge speaker and ground wire (NVX)
3. Inline 60 amp fuse for your power wire
4. 16 gauge speaker wire (NVX)
5. 4000 series stinger RCA's (preferably two sets)

That's the basic stuff you need for set up.
Now. You have a 2013 ultra classic.
That means you need a 6 speaker set up.
6 speaker set up means a 4 channel amp with gain controls producing at least 150 x 4 @ 4ohms.
Your speakers in the fairing need to be components or coaxials
Your speakers in the lowers need to be pro audio midrange speakers.
Your speakers in the rear pods need to be coaxial speakers.
You need to change your HU to a Sony or a Kenwood.
And you will need an install kit for your handlebar controls. Biketronics, Hawg wired or the Metra Axxcess.

If you're gonna do it right. There it is. Otherwise you're just spinning your wheels. If you go plug and play. Biketronics is your best bet with the exception of the amp. wonderful amp with good power but you can't tune it.

P.S. You're gonna need these for your lower speakers:

Let me take a second here to remind guys of one very very valuable piece of info.

When buying the pieces/parts and components of your system, remember that you may need some technical assistance. Now almost everyone on the forum here is willing to help, but the person that designed the system will know the best way to run the full set up.
I say this because there are many people here that are always looking for the cheapest items from the cheapest online location. If you buy all of your parts from Amazon, who is going to help you get it all tuned and tweaked? If you buy the parts from an online retailer that does not do installs and only sells items from a warehouse, who is going to give you assistance?
All of this leads us back to going to a guy that sells the parts AND does the installs AND gives great prices. This guy will be there when you need to bounce something off him or you have an issue and an amp will not power up.
Alex at Bagger Audio Lab is this guy for me and many guys on the forum. You will hear time and time again to call or email Alex/Haze, this is because he cares and wants YOU to have the best system YOU are looking for and yes in your budget.

So my suggestion to guys is to call Alex, order your speakers, amps, and DSP from this guy. Then jump online and order your wire, fuses, blocks, etc.
Alex will tell you exactly what you need for the set up you are going to be getting.

Pete
