Default Starting from Scratch

Let me start off by saying I am an amateur when it comes to stereo equipment. I can install about anything but when it comes to knowing what to get I am lost. I was debating between the J&M and the Hogtunes but after reading several threads on here I am realizing that I can do better with some different manufacturers.

The reason I was looking at those two was because it seems like they offered kits that had everything I needed. I am not against piecing together parts but my problem is that I don't know what parts to get. I have searched all over and can't seem to find a "shopping list" of parts if you will. Several different speakers and amps are mentioned but not the other things that I will need to do the install.

I have a 2013 Ultra Classic and I am wanting to get an amp and change out the speakers in my fairing and install some speakers in the lowers. I could change out the speakers in the rear pods too but it's not as important since my wife says most of what she hears comes from the front anyway.

I know this is kind of a broad question but could someone point me in the right direction to start piecing together a new set?

If you are looking for easy install and that sounds good off the bat I'd check out Biketronics.

Is the BT4180 worth the price difference over the BT2180. If it matters I may be connecting the back speakers at a later date.

the 2180 (2 channel amp) will run your fairing and your lowers and that's where it ends.
the 4180 (4 channel amp) will run your fairing and lowers on the front channel and the pods on the rear channel.

You're buying two 2180s when you buy a 4180.

What's ur budget?
U staying with the stock HU?

If u can crimp a few wires and work a screwdriver and a wrench I personally don't see a need for a "plug and play" setup. Bang for the buck goes up tremendously if u put the kit together yourself.

dont most of the "plug n play" set ups require dang near as much work as the customs? still takin fairing apart, pulling gas tank to power amp?

I'm sure any number of qualified people would put together a list of everything he needs down to the wire connectors. Just need to know if he's willing to put it together and what he wants to spend!
