Default aquatic av

so after rain killed my kenwood. I ordered an aquatic av radio the cheap one.... this question is for guys who have them or know about them.

the tabs that hold your phone inside the radio.. can they be removed so I can get a Samsung in there ? yes I'm well aware of warranty bla bla bla but has anyone or know of someone who has removed them ? I see them as the only reason you cant get a larger phone in there. unless on the actual h version there are no tabs. then disregard this question. where I ordered from sent me the wrong model and had to return it for the correct one so I'm just going off the one I have seen

thanks

All models have the tabs. They are just plastic so they can be cut out. although I would investigate to see if the entire tray mechanism can be removed with screws before cutting anything. I would measure the depth before I did anything also, and make sure that you have enough there too.

yea I looked at the unit I had briefly since I had to send it back to get my money back since I ordered another one. but they almost looked like they was metal. I think a better design would to make them adjustable myself. but when I do get my correct one back I will be seeing how to take it apart. it is wide enough if the tabs are not there just the depth like you say might be the problem.
just didn't know if anyone had done this 'mod" or not

You know the tabs are adjustable right? There are two white buttons. One releases the tray out, and the other releases the tabs to their widest position. You lay your device on the tray, and the arms have ratchet multi position locking feature to secure all the different width devices. If you just opened the door and tried to put your device in, there is a good chance it was in it's narrowest position.

No problem, that's why I asked. Maybe no need to cut or remove anything. It is one of my favorite things about that HU, so would be a shame to remove it. I just toasted another iPod in my saddlebag, because my cooler bag leaked. My iPod fell from it's storage pouch, and got submerged. Wish my HU had a water proof storage area. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions when you get it, and I'll PM you my phone number.

I am not positive but I think the cheap black and white version does not have a sliding tray, it is just a open box

You are correct. If he meant the cheap one as AV AQ-MP-5BT-H, then it does not have the sliding tray. If he meant the cheap one as the cheaper of the two color display models, then that one does have the sliding tray. I assumed since the first one he ordered had it, then the second one would. I was guessing the first one was wrong because it was not the Harley model.

The pics I've seen of the cheaper one didn't have the tray. Maybe that was an older model, and they made updates to the non color display units. Anyway, unless you have a phone larger than an iphone 6, I think you are going to be ok. I don't think it would fit a iphone 6 plus, or the comparable tablet/phones.
