Do you have lowers already and are looking for the speaker boxes or are you starting from a nekkid crash bar? I suspect they may not be cross compatible if you get my meaning. Other than that the 13 down lowers have a vent that is semi circular and rotates out of the way and the 14 up if I remember correctly has a smaller directional vent that sort of looks like a wing window in an old truck. You point it to where you want the air to go.
As far as the speakers pods go you can get 6.5" in either one I think. I got a set of Fairing Factory lowers for my 2010 and they were 6.5" holes and worked well. I think most all of the 14 up pods are 6.5". There are other sizes from custom vendors if you want to get creative.
i just installed a set of 14 lowers on a 14, while they do take a 6.5 speak, they were designed for the boom stuff. i installed MMats pa601's and made an adapter ring so that i could use the mmats grills. this was with the HD speaker box kit for the lowers. worked out well and sounded very good. my bike is an 04, and it had glove boxes. i found a set of adapters on ebay, that allowed me to convert the glovebox to s speaker box, not quite as clean a look, but not at all terrrible. i would think some of the issue is whether or not you are dealing with a wet head or not.

Jim, the engine guard/crash bar are the same part numbers for 09-16 for sure didn't check M8 engines.
Lowers from 09-13 will fit your bike, the vented lowers changed from a ****(09-13) to a slider(14+) to open.
I think the 09-13 lowers were easier to work with as the 14+ it was a little bit of a pain to grind the spacer and get the grill to sit flush and look decent.

If he can use 13 down lowers I will add they seem to have a bigger vent opening than the newer ones. I don't know if it actually flows more air or not but the air slot does seem to be larger.
Maybe someone that has used both before can chime in.
