Default New 8's

Yes, I need new 8's. After troubleshooting on my own, I tried I known good speaker on the wiring to the 8 that wasn't working, and the good speaker worked. I guess that means it's blown. So help me out, and I know we all have our own opinions....

I managed to get a refund for a defective product, so no I need something to fill the holes.

Must go low...50 hz or so, 4 ohm, can take 300+ watts. I'm not an expert, but the two that come to mind are the same 200L I had, or the GZ yellow baskets. Any other ideas?

GSN,

I think you best bet wit those lids and that power management would be the yellow basket GZ's. Yes, they say they hit 50hz but that may be a hard target to hit out of lids.

What I experience, for a short time, yesterday was a midbass punch. I never really knew what people meant by that. It wasn't in the 50hz range. It was probably in the 80-90 hz range, and just seem to make the other speakers sound lower and better. It was pretty amazing.

How much power do you have available for lids?

350 each RMS, but that was overheating the Stinger. I added a 30 amp fuse, and turned down the gain a little, so it's probably about 300.

I have my lids and lowers hitting good in the 95-150hz range. It’s not the warm boom that you think of with subs but the benefit is that you retain more of it at speed.

I've never heard a bad word about Ground Zero yellow baskets. They just show 150 watts RMS. I wouldn't be completely opposed coax with a warm woofer in the 80 hz range.

With that power you may need to stay with a speaker that has a 95spl spec or higher in order to get good volume.

What do you guys think of the discontinued Pioneer TMS800 Pro. It's 96 SPL, and a huge frequency range. Max power at 700 watts each.

Here is my two cents on the subject. An 8 in the lid really doesn't have a lot of business playing in the 50 hz range. I think you need an 8 that is loud enough for riding speed and will maintain some thump. After hearing the GZ yellows, I think that is a very solid speaker for that application. Yes, the stinger bridged is probably a little too much power for them, but you can always turn the amp down a bit. I'd hit up slodsm, ask him what amp he's running on them and where his crossovers are set. Those are some of the best kid speakers I've heard yet. Next is a set of horns for the lids. Not sure where you are on that, but GZ, DD, Hertz all make good products for that application. Selecting the right 8 and horn will yield you some damn good results.
I don't know anything about the pioneer, and while I'm all about trying new products, I think there is a wide enough range that the forum has used other than that that can be used.
The 200L is a good option for lower bass but won't get up into the mid ranges as high as the yellow.
A hertz 200.1 is a loud good speaker but won't play low.
Rockville RM64 is a good choice also, but the power you have is too much for them. I've had them at 80 hz with good thump but now strong bass. More of a midrange speaker.
Crescendo UN8 is also another good choice. Won't provide as much on the lows but good clear mids.
If bass and volume is what you're looking for I think the yellow is your huckleberry
