Default Customizing things

So I know this isnt audio related, but many of you guys have probably don't custom things to your show bikes and may know how to go about what I'm looking to do.

At the Camel bike fest last Sat, I sam many bikes with handlebars that had all the wiring AND break and clutch lines internal. I've looked around, and even posted this in the M8 forum, but haven't found much. Someone did point me to a sight that sells kits for like 2 grand, but that doesnt include handlebars!

So do any of you guys know if someone makes handlebars made specifically for doing internal wiring and lines? Also would need different fluid line connections or something. I wish I'd gotten a closer look at how these bikes were done and I might haven an idea or two. I really like the clean looks of this.

Thanks for any advice.

most of the time the lines used for the internal hydraulics are a small diameter plastic tubing similar to the air shock air lines. to me i notice a difference in the brake and clutch performance, but some people don't. it is costly and time consuming to have it done correctly, AND it drives up repair costs if you need to address any issues in whichever system if a problem presents after time in use. I don't normally recommend this type of setup for a street ridden bike, usually limited to show types, but if you want to have it it can be done. it's a little easier with a fly-by-wire bike, search out a custom shop with a good rep in your area and start a conversation.

There is ZERO difference in the performance of how the clutch of brake performs. This is something we do on all 14 and up handlebar jobs. Use the good Russel nylon line. Its clean, and makes it look so much better. If you have any questions please give us a call..

Is this something financially within reason? I saw a kit somewhere that was 2 grand. But I think it had the reservoirs inside the bars too, so I'm sure that was where the high cost came from.

If you have a newer bike with hydraulic clutch yes. If not it gets pretty expensive.

Whoever writes the posts for Lucky 7 is absolutely entitled to their opinion about any performance differences, but My Opinion is based on measured facts and data, not just opinion. If the job is not done properly, there IS a noticeable difference. Maybe they do the job the right way from the start, so they dont get to experience the issues. A lot of my work is cleaning up messes and putting out fires from OTHER people and / or shops that install these kinds of systems and modifications and do it incorrectly, which does result in lack of performance.

Thanks. I'll talk to someone local before I make a decision. I'm not dead set on doing this anyway, so we'll see.

there's a thread i think in the softail section of a guy that did it making his own lines with something like the russell kit. He go the largest diameter bars he could find (1.5"?) an he fitted the master cylinders an fitted 90 degree turn fittings an marked the bars an drilled holes to run the lines through. he did it on a throttle cable bike an ran an internal throttle an converted to hydraulic clutch. It's a nice write up an he did a nice job.
