Software to make GTS compatible is here
Good Evening,
I haven't seen a recent post on this so I wanted to inform anyone who might have been in the same situation as me. As we are all aware, the GTS radio would not work on any bike from 2014-2018. I know Soundz makes an adapter so I am refering to it not working without the adapter. On black friday, Harley released an unlocked version of the radio that would now work with the 2014-2018.
These newer radios can be identified with an "A" at the end of the part number. There is no difference between the radios with the "A" at the end, to the production ones (radios that came with the 2019 and 2020 bikes) other then the software loaded in them. With the price of these things new, I can understand why so many people were looking for them used. Only issue is then you would have had to bybthe Soundz module for 450 bucks to make it work.
Well not anymore. After over a month of me calling Harley every week and bugging the hell out of them, they finally released the software that will make any GTS radio work on a 2014-2018 touring bike. The new software version is MY20.19.39.00. They haven't put it on the Harley software website yet, but your dealer can download it for you and put it on a thumb drive. You can also get it on the SIP if you like. Here is the link. https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson.com/sip/service/document/1325930471406173388baseUrl=%2Fservice%2Fdocument%2 F1325930471406173388. Using a radio with out an "A" at the end of the part number does bring a little more work though.
In order to get the software to work, the radio needs to be in a 2019 or newer bike to do the update. Once that is complete, shut the bike off and wait 15 seconds. After the the 15 seconds, put the bike in ACC. When the warning menu pops up, hold the off botton/mute on the bottom right of the screen until the service menu pops up. Once that is up, scroll to the bottom until you see "reset". Select "Reset" and then select "reset pre-calibration. Once the steps above are completed. You can remove the radio and install it in a 2014-2018 bike and it will work. I did mine today and everything works flawlessly.
Just a few little side notes. I installed the Sirus XM module from my GT radio and it works on my GTS. I know Harley has a different part # for the GTS modules. Not sure why. I know this was a little long but just wanted to share.
