Yeah I've always thought that vent was nothing but a water intake. I don't really get much water at all in my pre-Rushmore batwing.

With the description you've given me of the controls I wonder if the pre-Rushmore bikes would have as much functionality. The buttons are labeled differently and are not can-bus, they are hardwired so to speak.

it’s only when you start investigating stuff you realise how bad fitting the Rushmore wings are. Not just that vent but either side of the screen there are big gaps for water. add British weather and you soon learn how wet it gets

the METRA modules take care of the wiring integration, and you can reprogram some of those functions but I’ve not fiddled much with those settings.

maybe ask Fat Head or other suppliers….better, find a forum member with similar year and Sony. They’ll put you straight

best upgrade I’ve done to my 2017 IMHO

Is that something you put together or is it available for sale? Brilliant.

Good Luck, they've been sold out of the 7000 for over a year. I emailed FatHeadCycles just to see if they had an Idea on when they'd be back in stock, their reply was...."We have no idea"
That "bat cape" is a great idea!!

wrap the unit in plastic draw-lining and waterproof tape and you'll have a waterproof setup. Thoroughly tested here in the on/off rains of England

Thumbs give you volume, source, forward / back, album skip, screen black out, attenuate
and those last two options are a massive plus over the 6.5 inFRUSTATION system my bike had

add to that you can use any up-to-date map source you want to use and that was my reason for switching.

I heavily researched the GTS, and after much sage advice that often focused on the waterproof plus, I'm kinda glad the MotoCo UK wouldn't sell us nor help us
retro-fit, as I now find the Sony interface more feature rich than what my buddy has on his GTS (and without the additional costs and faff of involving the dealer)

Your Mileage May Vary
Everything you listed is what I plan to do on my 2007 with a metra kit including the cape, but was curious if you use a splash cover?

Did anybody figure out what handlebar controls are retained for pre-Rushmore bikes?

yep ROADIES, for when it pours hard (or if I set off in the rain). Carry it in a Nintendo Switch case in my bags

Pros: keeps the rain out. handy for dimming the screen at night in the dark (I have auto dim turned OFF for better day time viewing)
Cons:
ugly surround when its off the bike (more often than not). IMHO not so good at shielding from the pressure washer (even if I try not to aim direct). you can't touch screen (obviously)

{pics pre murdered out gauge surrounds}

Appreciate the info! My plan is to slowly gather the necessary items and all the info I can find so I can do it right all at once. Probably by next season or in the winter after next season as I'm in no rush and broke lol.

Glad to see it works out for you even in your weather. I should have no issues in PA since our rain is constant, but normally pretty tame with only a few crazy downpours a year. Unless we plan a 4+ man ride that's over 3 hours away, then it's guaranteed to happen. It not being able to hold up to the pressure washer is a bummer, but not a deal breaker for me. I see what you mean about the surround, but also not a deal breaker to me and your bike still looks damn good with the threads showing. I mainly want the double-din for nav and it's definitely not a show bike. The previous owner made sure of that by purposely leaving it uncovered in the weather for 5-6 years so it would turn into a big green moss monster. To each their own, I guess.
