Default Stereo/Radio Upgrade

I have a 2000 Electra Glide Ultra Classic with a Motor Trike kit and the old original am/fm cassette player . I'd like to maybe pick up a newer model that will fit and work off my handlebar controls and have a USB input for a flash drive, maybe still retain the weather channel . Used ,nothing expensive ,fancy just a step up from a cassette player Will that effect the CB radio portion and headsets ?

I am not aware of any aftermarket head units that will allow you to keep CB and headset usage on your model bike. If you use both of those you might want to pick up a used Harley head unit with a CD player on it. The CD portion will play CDs with MP3 files on it so that expands things a little bit. You can also add an iPod module (for the older 30 pin units) and a Saddletramp bluetooth unit. I had all that on my old 2010, but I can say the bluetooth module would sometimes hang up and I'd have to pull the main fuse to reset it.

If you can do without the CB and headsets the sky is the limit, but I understand if you want to keep that functionality. Sometimes dealers will have old stock head units laying around when customers upgrade to one of the newer aftermarket head units. Also you can find them on Ebay and sometimes on this BST forum.

Good luck.

Oh, the CB isn't important to me . My wife and I have after market wireless headsets for intercom . But I did think the cheapest upgrade might be a Harley stereo from a newer year that my 2000 . But will it connect to my harness?

Thanks for the reply

The 2006 and later harmon radios plug in and work. I have bought a few dirt cheap for projects. The only thing is that they are programmed on the bike for 2 or 4 speaker and you can't do the programming on your year - so you have to get the correct on. You would want to find a used one from an Ultra. I have a pretty high degree of confidence it would work fine for the rear controls. There would not be a USB, but there would be an AUX input and the weather channel.
