I have a 97 FLTCUI (Electraglide Ultra) and want to upgrade its radio... Knowing that HD is not in the radio business I am wondering what some of you may be using to upgrade your systems... I want to join the 21st century and have a radio that will play MP3 and possibly/hopefully accept portable memory... Are there any 3rd party manufacturers or outfits offering such an upgrade or better yet anyone done so???
Having just visited the Biketronics link above, is this as easy to install as they say it is? Do all the hand controls actually still work, along with the speed volume control? I assume this is $200 just for the adapter and the deck is separate, so what's a good model that looks good (as if it were made to go there) to slide in there?
I think the factory radio is a bit lacking, although with the advanced sound system it doesn't sound too bad (expensive option, but for a EGC, adding those rear speakers and the AMP really livened up the tunes), especially with a CD, but I'm thinking Hogtunes speakers and a decent deck would really improve the ride (especially if there's a deck that has XM radio buit in...)
I have intalled the Biketronics stuff and its as easy as they say it is. I also installed last weekend the XM module as well. The hand controls work like the factory as well as the volume control at speeds. It seems most folks go with the sony 5710 for some reason i have had mine for 6 months now and no issues. The folks there are great to work with as well. Dont forget the Hogtune speakers, it makes the difference. The radio(5710), wiring harness, hogtunes and Xm were all less than $600. and sounds and performs much better than the HD stuff. It takes about and hour to intall it all.
So, correct me if I am wrong but this is a wiring harness adoptation alowing a limited number of radio manufactures to be used to upgrade your old one. Not that, that is a simple task, I am simply wondering if the bang is there???
