Default Speaker Upgrade without AMP

Wondering if anyone has had any luck upgrading speakers without amping them. Not looking to win a sound competition, just a little better sound from the stock on my 08 street glide.

I don't want to buy speakers and under power them, it will be a nightmare. Heard the Harley boom might be okay but hate to buy them and waste $.

Thanks

I would try a good 2 ohm speaker and then if you are not happy with that, you can then add a amp. Polk Audio makes a good 2.7 ohm speaker model number MM651 and some here are satified with HD Boom speakers. If you decide on the Polk Audio's just be advised they are 6.5 inch speaker and you will need a adapter for them.

I am looking into the mm651 and they have a "slim". Should I be avoiding the slim? If the mm651 regular fits id just assume go with it.

the MM651 is not available in a slim version.

There is an MM651 and an MM651UM.. you do NOT want the UM version as the grills do not detach from the speaker.

The MM651 is a good replacement speaker for 2 reasons, they sound great and they're 2 ohms. You'll need 6.5" speaker adapter rings as well for the fairing...

You don't want the slim version. The link below shows the Polk MM's that most are using. You will most likely want to add an amp in the future though, the Polk's like power! Sonicelectronix also provides a 1 year warranty (same as Polk).

I think im gonna just pull the trigger and amp them, rather then wish I had and have to start over taking everything apart again. One thing ive read on here is the 651 is 2.7ohm and the pbr300 Rockford amp is 4 ohm I guess. It supposively is an issue, any recommendation on the best amp for the job?

The Rockford Fosgate PBR300x2 is stable to 2 ohms, so if you'll just be running two speakers it's a great combo. The RF 4ch is only stable to 4 ohms.

if 2 speakers, no issue with the PBR300x2
if 4 speakers, you DO NOT want to use the PBR300x4

if 4 speakers, you have many options to choose from including, the SS PN4.520D, running (2) PBR300x2 (1 for each set)
