If we talk about engine power on any model, then install any turbocharger on the engine and it will not be superfluous. As I did for myself on the best turbo upgrade for 6.0 powerstroke and I do not regret it, I ordered here https://boostyourengine.com/ford-6-0...-turbocharger/. thank you
I have been running the OG-1 system on my stock 96" 2009 FLHTC for 20K miles. Love it! No factory CVO Harley has outrun it yet. 117HP/127LBFT.
I am doing my own Stage II design this winter. The crank/cases are at Darkhorse getting trued, plugged, welded and timken bearing conversion. The heads are at FuelMoto getting their Level B CNC (Ward)
porting, larger valves, new guides and springs, and drill/tap for manual compression releases.
I am installing 107 jugs and flat top pistons; S&S 585 cams, lifters and Quickee pushrods, and an S&S 58MM throttle body. Boost is going from 8 to 12 PSI.
If I don't exceed 150/150 I will be severely disappointed!
Well, it's running!!! I panicked at first, as I was seeing no oil pressure! Cracking the line at the turbo verified oil flow. Turns out my new Chinese sending unit was ***** out of the box! HD is back ordered until April! Mechanical gauge put my worries to rest.
I ended up using NOS Wiseco flat tops which resulted in a 10.25:1 compression ratio. I would have thought that a little high for a boosted bike, but Moots at Trask said it would be perfect.
Love the nice idle lope of the 585 cams. Throttle response is crisper with the 58MM S&S Throttle Hog TB. Oil pressure is really good (35 PSI at idle). I added an S&S pump and cam plate while I was in there.
The lifter bores had to be honed for oversize Feuling Race Series lifters. Kind of surprised with only 32K on the clock and regular oil changes. Hmm No other surprises when the bottom end was blueprinted.
I added a Turbosmart boost controller in line to the waste gate. I will use it to adjust for the desired max boost (12 PSI).
I need to put about 500 miles on it before I take it to my tuner. I have the Thundermax with autotune, so if I take it easy, all should be well. I got an appropriate map from Trask for my build to use as a baseline.
I have to run the lifters tomorrow morning, as I slightly missed on one of them and can't stand a ticking lifter! I'm afraid the front cylinder will require removing the turbo to get necessary access. I did a cursory inspection of the rear lifters after I heard the tick without disassembling anything else, but it was damn tight!
Can't wait to see the results of my labors and check book! The dyno never lies, but I'll be damn disappointed if it doesn't easily produce 150/150.
I'd think it should make a bit more than that. My '11 Softail with a Sean Ray turbo kit sounds like a similar build. Still 96", but with 9.75:1 pistons, Fuel Moto jugs, level B heads, Woods TW-7H cams. On the wastegate spring at 8psi, it makes 137/147 on straight 91 pump gas. I too have the Turbosmart e-boost 40 and have settings for 10-12-14, all on pump gas with ACES IV additive. At 14psi, it made 179/181.
Sounds like a great build! I only bought the Turbosmart "Tee" fitting style that will have to remain set at whatever max boost I feel confident in running on pump gas.. This is still my road trip bike, so I can't go too crazy. At the same time, I want max return on my efforts! I know, there is no free lunch or safe space when riding on the edge.
Thanks for the reply.
I'm sure the manual controller will work well. I opted for the electronic because I wanted the ability to have precise control at the different levels of boost. Here's how I mounted mine up with the Power Vision and POD-300 display for widebands. It's made from 1/8" T-6061 aluminum sheet, then black powdercoated, and attached to the bars with two Power Vision mounts.
Anyone running a trask stage 2? What are you opinions? Was it worth the money? Did you change the boost either up or down?
Im running their Stage 2 on my 2022 Street Glide ST stock motor, trans. All I’ve done was put in a RS468 Cam and the stage 2 turbo with the thundermax ECU. Bike runs incredibly fast. I’m leaving the boost at 8lbs that Trask recommend until I upgrade the driveline and the motor. It gets a little hot on my right leg, but I can move my leg around as needed to cool down.
Little low on power I’d say, other have reached 10-15 more hp. I just need a better tune. As far as mpg goes, it’s not the best as you’d expect, around 150-160 miles I’m looking for gas, and that was on a road trip on cruise control running 70-85mph most the way on the 370 mile trip.
