Howdy Y'all !

I'm riding from Vancouver to Calgary mid July

I'm looking for any local advice for the best route for twist, turns, elevation and scenery

I'm also looking for places to crash either for free camping or airbnb

I've done the trip once already on the Trans Canada it was excellent but I'm looking for an alternate route possibly the crows nest pass ?

Any local insight would greatly appreciated

Thanks !

You definitely want to take the Crowsnest route to Calgary, Grand Forks has a cool little hotel on the river that has car ports to park your bike in, and a short walk to the bars/restaurants across the river. If that is a bit further than you want to ride in a day, Osoyoos or Penticton are good places to visit also, best bet is to plan out overnight accomodation, lots of pent up demand due to the shamdemic and severe staff shortages everywhere in BC thanks to our worthless communist overlords.

My best route would be a lot longer than the Crow's Nest, but if you want the Crow's Nest then here goes:

Take the Crow's Nest and then loop up to Nakusp, take that road up to the ferry and cross over and then through Revelstoke to Stoney Plain, down Highway 40 in Alberta to Black Diamond and then up to Calgary. Lots of corners - especially up through the Nakusp area. Highway 40 heading south will have the Rockies on your right for hours - it's very scenic, and then you end up in ranch territory at the bottom.

If you want a lot of corners and up and over mountains, then I would consider heading north from Vancouver, over the Duffy, then down #12 to Lytton, then 5A to Merritt, take the 97C Connector to Kelowna, then Vernon, and that to the ferry to Nakusp and the rest of the route is the same.

I just got back from a 3363km ride and I did the second route, except I stayed on the #1 into Kamloops and Salmon Arm to visit friends and family.

Highway 12 from Lillooet to Lytton is one of my favs - not long, but barely used and lots of vies/corners.

Here is a vid of Highway 40 last week - the highway just opened a few days prior due to needing to clear avalanche snow drifts.

Thanks Zedbra

I will probably try and use your second route - it looks like some epic riding and the type of adventure I'm looking for

do you have any advice for accommodations?
Something affordable or any suggestions for crown land for camping near or beside any bodies of water I.e lakes and rivers

This is some great advice other members Please chime in !

Thanks - Pipe

I always stay at friends' houses along my journeys, so I don't look for hotels or campgrounds, though there are many parks and campgrounds all over BC and along all the major routes.

Taking either of the routes Zedbra recommended will find you in Longview AB. It's a popular spot with riders.

Be sure to stop at the Jerky Shop there; I swear my tourpak was 1/3 full of their tasty treats!

Frazier River Valley in BC is stunning. That being said, I don't know if your route may be better. I would look at coming into BC a bit more north, and coming down Canada 1 through the canyon.
