Default S&S Super E Carburetor questions

I am adding pictures of the one on my pan/shovel engine

I do not know if every single S&S Super E carb is all the same or not

I plan to remove this carb and take it apart and clean it

1) I have some S&S Super E Carburetor questions:

2) What rebuild kit p/n would I need for this one?

3) Do I need to add a Return Cable, going to the throttle on the handlebars, to this carburetor?

4) Does anyone have a Complete Air Cleaner Assembly that would fit this carb and do you want to sell it?

Thank You

yes you should add the return cable.
almost any indy shop should be able to get you a gasket kit,,,,,lots of times you just need a bowl gasket,,,,,depends what you find when its open,,,,
again, almost any good indy shop should be able to set you up with the correct air cleaner back plate and cover,

The bowl vent is different on later Super E carbs. Other than that and application specific jetting, I am unaware of any differences.

There are great manuals with piacures on the S&S web site. They usually have a list of part numbers for service parts inlcuding air cleaner covers etc.

Rebuild kits are available, the jets can be swapped out for different sizes but the rebuild kits are the same except as noted above.

Return cable is not required, safety concern someone dreamed up. I have three bikes without and I am still here to type.

I have had throttle cables become frayed inside the housing, if this happened on a single cable system, I would have been on the side of the road, or possibly worse depending on the traffic and speed.

But with a dual throttle cable system, a frayed cable does not mean a stuck throttle, it just means it is harder to turn, so the ride is uneventful.

Anything can happen at anytime especially with an old bikes. Not going to carry around an extra clutch cable because I had one snap in 1989. Yes hit the kill switch and sort out the problem.

Let's leave it as opinion, my opinion based on experience is that you do not need one.

and The Motor Company"s opinion is that you do need one,,,,,they have WAAAYYYYYY more money to spend on R&D than we do,,,,,,why do most all of the throttle cable bikes(lets say since 1990) have 2 cables???

I wouldn't go to the effort to convert a bike with a carb that didn't have the option for push / pull cables. But if it did, I'd use both cables. That said, I have ridden one for a while that had the option (early HSR42), but didn't have the second cable because I had problems finding the correct cable. Once I located the correct cable I set it up to use both.

In the case of the OP, I suspect the bike may not have the throttle control for dual cables.

I suspect the Motor Company did it primarily to CYA in terms of liability. Or perhaps they wanted to help make sure that had return customers.

This bike May Have a frayed cable then... the carburetor will open upo by hand at the carburetor, but the hand/twist throttle wont budge at the moment - I have it stored at a friends for a while so I can only go over there, once in a while, to work on it.

Thank You
