I have the title and the matching transmission (with newer style gears). The belly numbers are matching. The chrome rocker boxes and timing cover are chromed but I have the originals.
Curious what the real experts say but the vin pad to me looks suspect. The crisp edges especially at the right end of the pad and the under side of the 2 bumps. The circle around the L as well.
Some people wont care but others will as that engine wont be cheap. Here's an example of one of my engines from the same era with an original vin and vin pad.
The other giveaway is the hard line below the vin showing that the pad has been cut down eliminating the original vin. There should be no "shelf" below the vin, just a smooth rounded transition.
Welcome to the forum. I agree the SN boss looks altered. How many sequence characters are hidden? What is the range?
Date code on the left case looks like L 8?
It may be unlikely that the R-H case has a casting number outside but if it does can you post a photo of it please.

Matching BNs is a good thing but what do the characters look like? Can you post a partial photo.
Looks like part of a date code plate on the R-H side of the rear cylinder but what’s the other number on that plate? And what letter is on that cylinder?
What date code particulars are on the front cylinder? Thanks.
