Default Stiff Shifting Action

Hey Guys I recently picked up a pro street style custom that is an S&S motor and 5 speed trans that is giving me some trouble shifting gears it requires excessive heavy pressure going up or down shift you gotta really put your foot into the shifter and be wearing heavy boots or else you won’t get it in gear. I’ve even had to hit the shifter more than once to get one gear change. It never jumps out of gear, or grinds the gears it’s just really stiff.

What should I be looking for and what causes this to happen?

It sounds like the shift linkage may need some lubrication. At the point where the linkage shaft passed through the inner primary housing can be a location I’ve seen get sticky. A shot of light lithium lube.in a spray should take care of it.

Possible clutch plates sticking or clutch out of adjustment, low tranny oil.

I had a Chinese 5 speed that was like that. I sold the bike, but a good transmission man could probably take it apart and check clearances. You have of course made sure it is filled with a decent transmission oil?
