Default Fluid questions.

I got a couple quick questions for my 2014 street bob. I havent gotten around to picking up a harley manual yet and i have misplaced my owners manual. Im off work today and want to do my 5k service. I know that ill use 20w50, probably mobile 1 since im having a hard time finding amsoil and dont want to drive to the dealer every time. So i need to know how much fluid for each hole and if if i use gear oil in the trans, what weight?

I realize these are very basic questions and have probably been asked millions of time but, for whatever reason i cannot find a straight answer anywhere online and i I apologize. Thanks guys.

I use 20/50 engine oil, almost 4 quarts
Transmission I use severe lube 70/90 by amsoil one quart
Primary, the same type oil for the engine, 38 oz.. if just draining.

Dynas only use about 3 QTS of oil in the engine. One qt in tranny, use a 75/90 gear oil (I use Spectro Platinum 6 Speed) and one qt in primary (I use HD Formula +).

Your right, I forgot that. I buy my oil by cases to save and only 2 Dyna bikes which are the only one's that only needs 3 quarts.

FWIW, at least according to service manual you should not need to do primary or transmission fluids (assuming they were done at 1k, next up would be primary at 10k).

Level wise, roughly 2.5qt is what the norm "seems" to be

Always better to change your fluids on a milage or annual basis. Whichever comes first. I'll change my oil before first ride this spring and same with trans and primary. If I put enough miles on before winter then I'll change it again. If you can't do it yourself then $ is a bigger factor, but ,if you can't afford annaul maintenance find a different hobby. Baker had a nice article about using 20w50 engine oil in the trans.

Yup, never really got why people use motor oil (20/50) in their trans...sure it will work, but it's not designed for that use.
