Default What oil and air pressure for air shocks

After reading many post about how nice air shocks ride, I decided to dive in, I just purchased a set of 12 inch from a 2012 streetglide , my question is what oil should I use and what air pressure do I use for solo and 2 up riding. My weight is 170 and wife is 140 so she tells me.

air pressure will be something you'll have to fine tune to what you like and how you ride, but I think 15-20psi would be a good starting point as I see a lot of the touring guys run 20-25 on heavier bikes with usually a little more gear, and up in the 40's with fully loaded bikes riding two up.

And I would stay between 5 and 10wt shock oil. Obviously going to the heavier oil if you ride aggressively. 7.5wt might be a good middle ground.

look it up to be sure BUT max air pressure for I believe 09 and later shocks is 50lbs
of air and 08 earlier is 25lbs..

I personally have 09 street glide 12" shocks on my switchback and swapped out to 10 weight synthetic oil and if I were doing it today I would get 1qt each of 10wt and 15wt and mix equal parts to end with a 12.5wt oil which I think would be perfect..

currently weighing in at 175lbs and run 23-25 lbs air solo and around 30 2 up, wont give my wifes weight online for fear of DEATH!!! with the heavier oil I think I could get away with 20lbs solo and 25 2 up and better over all damping

THx for the reply, just what I was looking for, one more question I forgot to ask, how much oil goes into each shock, these are off a 2011 Streetglide

I have the same shocks. These are from a 2012 SG manual. I'm 220ish and I run solo at around 38-40 psi. When I load up for camping or the twisties I pump them up to 46-50. You have to remember the angle of the shocks on the Dyna are more than the up and down angle of the SG, which means more air. Once you put thicker shock oil you will be able to drop the air down. Like someone said above it's guess and check. In the 20's I would bottom out so I noticed high 30s is plush enough, but doesn't bottom out if I hit to big of a dip.

Shock Part # 54636-09
up to 150 lbs 0
150 - 200lbs 0 - 10
200 - 250lbs 10 - 20
250 - 300lbs 20 - 30
300 max load 30 - 50

I couldn't find a thread, but these are the notes I took for my oil change whenever I decide to do it. I've read that doing a 50/50 mix of 5 wt and 10 wt gives a good balance.
Oil change
Pull schraders and hang upside down for 3 days.
11 oz to refill

Jaron,
5wt and 10wt mix gave you 7.5 I don't think it is heavy enough which is why you need more air .. as I said at my weight the 10wt oil works BUT I really think a 12.5 would give a comfortable ride YET still leave you enough air adjustment for all types of riding for pretty much all weights of riders with passengers..

That's good to know then. That's just what I read in the past. I haven't played with the oil yet.

I got the oil changed out today, went pretty good, I want to get rid of the air lines and go with just air valves, I think they are called shrader valves, would any one have part numbers and where they got them, I tried a couple places locally and no luck THX
