Default Swedish FXDL New mods for the summer!

Did a short introduction in the new member section, now it´s time to introduce my ride.
Used to ride a 1200S and when I sold it last year I bought a Low Rider instead.

When I got it home, it was mostly stock looking, except for the apes. But the previous owner didn´t take care of his bike, it was mostly riding and letting other people do the work.

Some "mechanic" had cut the control cables and didn´t bother to solve them together again. It was just poor, cheap cable connectors and black tape wrapped around the cables...

A lot of brackets were loose after "customising" so I had to check most of the bike.

So this is what I started with.

Welcome! I too came from a '99 1200S to an '07 FXDL.

I notice that you have a headlight brow with intergal idiot lights. My stock '07 has a bottom mount headlight and the idiot lights are intergal to the risers. This is unique to the home market FXDL and creates major problems switching risers and bars. Do you think this was a mod or an export feature?

I really liked my 1200S, but it was time to move on to something bigger.

I don´t know if the idiot-lights is a matter of modelyear, mine is a 2003. I looked on the web for 2007 FXDL for sale in Sweden, and the also have the lights in the risers.
I have moved mine to the top tripple-tree, will post a photo later.

The bike had a lot of things that I didn´t like, the exhaust for one thing.

So I got some stuff together and started building.

Ditched the old mufflers and got me some Classic coctail shakers instead. modified the original exhaust just like another bike I´ve seen a few years ago on the web.

Made a couple of brackets and got it all togehter.

At the same time I noticed that the batterytray was rusty and it had to be fixed. Away to mediablasting and paint together with some parts from a forward controls kit.

This late into the season I had replaced the seat, got me some rubber gaitors upfront and a luggage rack in the back.
O, and I moved the front turnsignals and got rid of the eyebrow with it´s headlamp as well!

Cool project. I like the mufflers and the luggage rack.

Are you keeping the apes, or going to a lower handlebar, like the Sporty?

Thank for the feedback. I'm keeping the apes, I like the looks and it's different compared with what I've hade before. But I'm probably going to change risers, I'm running 3" now and I think 2" would be better.

This is how I solved the problem with the idiot lights.

Nice work you've done to the bike. I have always been a fan of that style muffer setup.
