Fat Boy front end on FXD???
Anyone here put a Fat Boy front end on an FXD? Wondering if it will be stable with the 28 degree rake in the neck? Going for a naked FLHS look...
I remember seeing a Donny Peterson creation that put a bagger front end on a Sporty, so if that worked out I see no reason you can't do what you want. It should look really nice. Post some pics when you finish.
I've been contemplating the same thing.
I ran across a couple of guys who've done it while I was researching parts on e-Bay. One guy e-mailed me photos of his '03 100th Anniversary Super Glide with a Fat Boy front end. Also, one of the Forum members sent a link to a webpage from a guy near Dallas, TX who had converted his Wide Glide to a FL-type front end. He had some hard bags and it looked a lot like a Road King.
Since I'm at sea on deployment for a few months, I've not been really actively pursuing it lately. I have also been thinking of just doing a Wide Glide conversion for my bike, an '05 Super Glide.
Cost of conversion will probably run you anywhere from $800 - 2,000 depending on where you source your parts and how much work you do yourself. You can pick up take-off parts on e-bay for around $375-$500 for the forks and triple trees (sometimes the tins, too); but then you've got the axle, wheel, fender, turn signal/spotlight/bracket, windshield (if you use one), etc. It will add up.
I was trying to see if I could do it all for less than $1,000 ... that's kind of a tall order. Let me know how it works out ... post photos.
