I currently own a 2003 FXDXT (T-Sport) and I have been thinking that I'd like to change the front end this winter. I was thinking about a Fat Boy front fork but after a little research it dosen't look like I'll be able to do it because the steering stops and where they hit on the frame are different on the fat boy. It's too bad because I really like that fat front end and the headlight and sheetmetal that go with it. My next choice would be a wide glide front end. I'm wondering if the steering stops and neck lock would be different from my t-sport than the wide glide and if I might be able to use my sliders and tubes and just have to buy a set of triple trees. If this project is doable then I'd get a 16" cast mag and tire and a fat boy fender. Any info that anybody out there can give me on this project would be greatly appreciated.
What about a front end off a Fat Bob only with a 7" single Fat Boy headlight? You get 49mm instead of 41mm and more modern forks...also get the big front tire and retain the dual front discs.....
In 05, I checked into having the WG front end change using all HD parts. The cost then, was about $1800.00. I have a file folder with every cent I spent on my scoot. I was just looking at the quote the other day. The quote I have has all the part numbers that's used for the conversion.
I still have the stock front end. The cost was to much for my blood.
Once I learned how to adjust the shock part of the front end. I've had no problems. It still have the same shock oil in it. But I only have, 8000 miles.
I like the fat bob idea, I'll have to look into it. I wonder if the fat boy headlight nacelle would go on the fat bob front end. I was told that harley dosen't sell complete front ends anymore and I haven't seen one on ebay or craigslist.
A person would need to measure the centre to centre distance of the fork tubes on the Fat Boy & Bob and see if they're close or the same...I do think the 49mm front end is a better setup than the 41mm...just look at how the tops of the tubes are secured to the trees on each...
See http://www.kenandjudy.us/Harley%20Pi...tEnd/index.htm for a great pictoral write up on how to convert a Dyna to a Fat Boy front end ... several of us on this forum have done it ... including a few just recently within the past few months ....
