1997 wide glide. just did oil change. Oil leaking out of eng filler and filled to the top after riding 35 miles. i was thinking it was transfering from the primary case into the crank case. is this able to happen? crank case is low. also is it able to transfer from the gear box to the eng case?
You supposed to put 3 qts motor oil into the crank case , are you sure you let it all drain out ? i don't think the primary or the trans fluids are able to leak into the crank case .... be careful with this one i would not ride it or run it untill you find out , the primary and trans fluids are all together different .... maybe a cracked motor block ?
Oil could leak from the primary to the engine but not very quickly. What do you mean by "filled to the top" but later you state "crankcase is low"? If you filled the engine oil to the top I think that's to much oil.
Probably a bad seal on the filter . None of the oils can transfer from one case to another . I'd say it has to be the filter .
I agree. Sometimes the silicone (or rubber) gasket from the old filter will not come off when you pull it. Sometimes it likes to stick to the oil filter mount. When that happens, you got two gaskets (the old one and the new one) and it ain't gonna seal.
Seen it happen several times.
If the old filter is still laying around, check to see if the gasket came off with it. If not, it's your call whether to pull the filter and look for the problem.
