96" Engine Knocking...
25 MPH in 2nd gear or 35 mph in 3rdmaintaining constant speed (very light load). I hear a slight knock sound that is bugging the crap out of me. Anyone come up with a cause/solution or is this normal?
my 06 WG sounds the same way, if you give it a little gas, it sounds like you are lugging the motor but you're not. I am getting to where it don't bug me that much anymore. I have 10,000 on it and no problems with the motor, so I guess the Twin Cams are just kind of noisey. I am used to riding a Shovelhead, the only noise it make was when the pushrods needed adjusting.
Premium fuel only. 92 octane with no added ethanol.
You really gotta listen but the knock sound is there. It's not preignition/pinging, it sounds more like a rod knock. A faint rod knock.

it sounds like you're starting to develop a form of "sound fatigue" that is common among people who have sensitive hearing... that is, those individuals who can "sort of" isolate particular sounds among many that might be occurring at the same time for a long time ...but because there are many loud sounds of things occurring at the same time for so long, this can create ambiguous tones, harmonics, and ghostly nuances that can confuse you..... it's similar to an "audio hallucination"
....i'd bet you're a musician, of sorts? ....you play any instruments?
