I'm still happy with this link, but like others, I've found that it sometimes gets a little "squeaky." Hitting it with a quick shot of chain wax does the trick. But I think I remember cggorman posting part numbers for pieces he ordered somewhere to make a higher quality link (McMaster Carr maybe?).
Here's my copy of the one you have. Custom stainless jack screw and Teflon lined stainless heims and nuts.

I get most of my heims at Midwest Control. Occasionally I'll use Speedway or Jegs or Summit, but I've been really happy with selection, quality, and pricing from Midwest.

2.500" for a minimum center to center at the eyes of about 4.375". You could easily go shorter, though. The on-bike length varies some, but mine was in the neighborhood 4.5".
Midwest has a Stainless turnbuckle (HBT6-1.125) that would work.
You could also do a male jack screw in carbon with matching carbon (teflon race) ends to save some money. (JSI-6F-2.125, MTF-6, MTFL-6)
