you should not have to de-pin a can-bus bike, the connectors are smaller and fit through the holes in bars. Older style Deutsch connectors will need to be de-pinned as those connectors are much larger. I belive the can-bus bikes started in 2012? i could be wrong. My 14 FXDL is can bus, no de-pinning required.

Thank you Jonesy, I did pop out that plastic cover, but still had some trouble locating the actual connector for the various thin handlebar wires. I will get underneath and take another look, any other advice for the process?
