Going to find a set of stock 2010-2013 from a street bob to install on a 2011 super glide custom.
Anyone do this swap?
I never changed bars before, any tips? Do I just remove the torx screw from the left and right grips- controls and they will just slide off and slide on the new bars? No cable-brake line-wires need to be changed?
I see JP cycles have some mini apes for around $50 but really want about the same as a stock street bob. But there are so many options, I get lost in narrow style-pull back and rise measurements.
you can most likely get a set of take off's from your dealer for cheep or craigs list. i have a set but am pretty far away and shipping would be costly.
the bars are internally wired meaning the wires are running thru the bars and down thru you top triple tree. you will have to disassemble the connectors after pulling them out thru your frame/neck area. there are a few threads on the how to's on doing this swap. look at the top three threads and in there will be links.
it will take a bit of time for your fist time but you can do it. take your time and write down all locations for the wires in the plugs before taking them apart. have a beer. be patient!
Be sure to have a manual before you open up the switch controls. There are some steps to follow. As long as thay are not internal wired, you should be able to do a swap. Plent of extra wire in the frame and the cable might need a little re-routing.
I hadn't changed any before and it took me about 45 minutes and I didn't need to change any cables
Are those street bob bars?mthat looks awesome
I just ordered Milwaukee twins part number 5000760- 32 1/2 inch wide, 11 inch rise, 7 inch pull back. Which should be close to street bob bars.
I switched my 2009 FXD to Street Bob bars. I much prefer the new bars, but the switch was a bit more involved than I expected. Had to change clutch and brake cables and wiring the bars internally was a pain. I'm kind of toying with changing bars again, but figuring out what to do with the stock speedo (I HATE that bar mounted speedo) and rewiring again has so far convinced me that my current set up is "good enough".

Not a big issue, however, your bars are a little lower and you may need to splice the wiring. You will also, more than likely, need a new clutch cable, break line, an throttle cables. Clutch cable requires you to drain the tranny and break line the break fluid. I believe the newer bars have the capability to be internally wired. Older bars can be adapted by punching a couple of holes. It makes the front look a little cleaner. There is a how to in one of the mod pages. There are also how to videos on the internet...youtube...on running internal wiring. If you have any mechanical aptitude, removing the switch housing will not be a problem.
