Thanks so much to the guys at Rooster's for the good work and going above and beyond what the factory turned down. They even washed my bike when they were done.
My alternator had the same problem July 27th, It took 4 weeks to get the new piece. The warranty was finished last march but the factory fixed it for free. About 10 friends in France had the same problem.

Thursday, August 21. 21,800 miles. Warranty expires Sept. 15. Clunk. Clunk. Clunk. Stator bolts. New stator ordered that is welded instead of bolted. No ride until fixed.
That's why my goal was 24,000 before warranty expired. I won't make it, but close enough.

Replacement stator (no rotor and regulator) is about $74 at Dennis Kirk.

A few 06 SB french owners have written a letter to HD-France. In this letter we asked for a recall. The first answer is arrived today : no recall because it's not a moco default!
You can believe in me, it's not the end of this story. French are stubborn....

Just don't pull out the white flag and surrender.

How easy is this to diagnose/fix by yourself? I have the service manual and would rather not wait until it fails.

I plan on putting forward controls on and might give it a go when I have the primary off.

The internet has become a real PITA for dealerships, car dealerships, you name it. Before people didn't have access to this kind of information. I went into my dealer and asked about the steering head washer service bulletin and they told me they had never heard of it. Thanks to this forum I had the service bulletin number and told them to look it up. They found it and they did the work under warranty.
