Default Missed gear when downshifting

Well, I’ve had my new-to-me 2008 FXDC for almost two months now. I’ve put about 1000 miles on it and in that time I have never been able to shift into 2nd when coming to a stop. Without fail it goes straight from 3rd to 1st every time. I’ve adjusted to it but it results in me having to coast with the clutch in longer than I would like and use the brake more than I would need to if I could use 2nd gear. Any thoughts on a possible fix?

Edited to add, I don’t have this problem when upshifting.

Are you blipping the throttle for rev matching when downshifting?

When you say you've adjusted it, what did you adjust...clutch, shifter linkage?

I would pop the top off the transmission and make sure the shift pawl is correct on the drum - I've never had to mess with mine, but I think there is an adjustment there too.

There is, and you don't actually have to take the top off the tranny. You can get it pretty close just measuring lever travel in each direction.

There is no adjustment for the shift pawl spring like the old 5 speeds (later 5 speeds don`t have it either).

Make sure clutch and clutch cable are adjusted properly, oil level in primary is correct.

Check linkage for binding, check the shift lever at the transmission, make sure it is tight on the shaft, no wobble whatsoever.

Interesting, didn't know! Shows what happens when you assume!

Mine has a locknut and an adjuster shaft. Some just have an adjuster (turned with allen key) and no locknut. I thought those were later models, but I guess not.
