Default What does this do??

This Fuelpak came with the 2012 Dyna I purchased a few months ago. I decided to remove it, plug the connector coming from the bike, then went for a ride. No difference! Bike ran the same.

What does this do and do I need it.?? The only modification on the bike are V&H slip-ons.

Thanks

Thanks. Not sure why the previous owner added this. The only modifications I see are the slip-ons. Didn't think a FuelPak was required.

That is a Fuelpak FP3, and is a flash tuner rather than a piggyback style like the earlier LED and LCD tuners we offer. That tuner will rewrite your ECM tables for whatever your current or future setup will be for that bike.

That's the old piggyback unit, here's the site for the FP3: https://fuelpak.vanceandhines.com/

Just because it was plugged in, does not mean that it was actually doing anything. If the previous owner had flashed the ECM back to the stock map, even with the FP3 plugged in, the FP3 would not be doing anything. Or, the previous owner may have flashed the ECM to a new map to take into account the more free flowing exhaust, and just left it plugged in. The ECM would still have the new map even if you unplugged the FP3. Go to V&H and download the app to your phone. Lots to play with in the FP3.

As that unit is a couple hundred to purchase, usually, and since you can use it to "tune" the bike better for any future changes YOU make to it, I'd keep it on there. If you decide to leave it off, let me have it. I'd LOVE it!

As an FYI, if I remember correctly, V&H FuelPak products VIN lock to their bike the first time you plug them in and turn on the bike. Unlike a Power Vision, I don't think there's a way to install a new license or unlock them.

FP3 tuners are married to the bike that they are tuned to. Pretty thoughtful the PO left it with his bike for the next owner to use. With proper downloads to the tuner from V&H you can tune the engine if internal mods are done. As others have said down load the FP3 tuner app to your smart phone and read the tutorial on it.

Def keep that on the bike, put the proper tune on it and have fun! It is a great tuner for these bikes.

As mentioned, download the app and read up on it.
