I have an 05 wide glide, so it has a fuel gauge on one side and a gas cap on the other side. Does it matter if I use a vented or non vented cap on this model of Harley?
I thought after about 1992 the caps were no longer vented, they had a hose that ran from the right tank to under the bike to vent the tanks. My 92 had a little nipple that stuck up in the right side tank fill hole. At least that the way i remember it. I have the stock tanks for that bike still i will take a look at them.

The cap is vented for suction, not pressure. The tank is vented from the vapor valve inside the tank to atmosphere.

A vented gas cap is to allow air back into the tank as the fuel level goes down (on a tank with no other venting).
You can use a vented cap on a vented, or non vented, tank with no problem.
But if you use a NON vented cap on a NON vented tank, eventually it will 'vacuum' lock and quit running.
When in doubt, use the vented.
