Street Bob Handlebar Help
I ride a 2012 street bob. I’m a little short at 5’7 with a 30 inch inseam. I added the mustang wide tripper forward seat which puts me in perfect position for my forward controls. Now I need to adjust my handlebar set up. The height of the stock 10 inch mini apes is perfect. But I need about 3 inches of pullback for my T-Rex arms. I am deciding between a new set of bars, pullback risers and even adjusting the stock bars back a bit. I also have a Memphis shades road warrior fairing so from a looks stand point that is also a factor. Advice?
Changing bars is a pain (internally wired switchgear, potentially need different length cables etc), so at least try tilting the mini-apes back a few inches first. I have the opposite problem from you, gangly long arms, so I tilted them forward, and have ridden like that for ten years, no worries.
I as well am only 5'7" and have a slight issue with the pegs on my 2013.. Only need a Half inch but anyways I put the bars perfectly in line with the fork tubes and it feels very comfortable.. I would pull them back an inch or 2 before changing anything.... Have you thought of going with Buckhorns.. I'm using them with 4" risers on my 98 Fatboy.. Very Very comfortable...
I'm 5'8" running 14" T-bars and find it comfortable, but what you're asking for is an extremely personal/subjective decision. There's a myriad of bar styles like the Lucky 13's for example, that are a t-bar/mx-bar hybrid, but they have no adjustability. You could go tall risers with the bar of your choosing and get a very similar look. Either would pair well with the memphis shades. If you have the ability to try a couple of friend's setups or a dealership with a used dyna selection, you could probably get a better feel for what you would like.
Another thing, check your top triple tree. I thought the 2008-up street bobs had the integrated risers, which limits your bar choices or necessitates a new top triple tree.

Swapping bars is a snap...these days you can buy everything you need and don't have to worry about cutting or soldering. And as long as your bars don't have sharp angles, internal wiring is a snap also. It's a great way to learn more about your bike too.
I wouldn't tip your mini-apes backward, it'll look dumb. Forward yes, but not backward. And don't you have integrated risers as mentioned? If you do, check this out LA Choppers 2 in. Handlebar Riser Extensions - LA-7430-02 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle | Dennis Kirk it might be your best solution.
