Adding fork oil? How?

thank you for the illustration.
i looked at the manual and noticed the small bolt, but was sure it threads into the bottom leg, hence used as a drain plug.
so, what you are saying is actually if we just want to change the oil to the heavier one best way is to remove fork legs from the trees, remove caps and turn fork leg upside-down?
that might be a good opertunity to finally put those fork-boots on.
now, what about oil weights?
am i correct that the original oil in the legs is 5W?
when you say you put in the heavier factory oil, was that 10W?
did you refill to the amount specified in the manual, or added some extra?

Bobber, yeah I think that is your best route.
One thing... unless you have a way to hold that fork while taking the top cap off, do it while its still in the lower tree. that way you can use the tree as a vise and clamp the fork down while you remove the top cap.
Just keep pressing down on that cap as you unscrew it. Its got some spring load, but nothing you can hold down.

Thanks a lot everyone for your input! Uhhh...I think I'll leave it alone for now, I'm not that good with fork pipes, springs and oil and stuff flying around...a little nervous here. I think HD made a design change, it's harder than what a guy at the local shop told me, but I think he was talking about the older bikes. Thanks anyway!

Take note of seeker's tip regarding using the trees as vise.
Someone told me the springs would be slack, and I believed it.
Mine had a good bit of force to launch the caps,
oil stains on my garage door to remind me next time,so hang on.
And have a rag handy.
Not enough pressure to really hurt you, unless that cap got you in the eye.
Not sure about actual weight of the stockfork oil.
I used the ScreaminEagle oil that says HEAVY on the can.
There is also ExtraHeavy and Racing weights.
As to the amount, I do believe the manual gives a measurement
in inchs down from the top of the pipe.
My notes from last August say that each of the WideGlide pipes required one pint plus 340 grams.

I made a vise, because I was completely disassembling to
change to the WG fork pipes.
