Default Swapping the entire charging system?

Hey all, i have an 06 dyna which originally came with the 88ci motor, it was swapped at some point for a 103 motor but the charging system remained stock 38 amp. Im having issues with stators burning out way too fast, i know my stator isnt touching the rotor, i shimmed it the first time i did the job cause at that point it was touching. Regulator tested fine all 4 times ive checked it so far. Ive been through 3 stators since then in less than a year and 8000kms. My main question is what exactly would be required to put a bigger charging system on it like a 45 amp system or maybe a 40 amp system from one of the newer dynas? Getting real tired of putting on the same old parts that keep on letting go, but i dont even know if this upgrade would solve my problem, any help?

There's only 1 thing after the stator, the regulator. I would be changing that this go around for sure regardless how it tests. Are you using quality parts such as cycle electric? Unless you have a bunch of aftermarket stuff, ie stereo, lights etc there's no reason to upgrade it.

I have a Cycle Electric regulator on my 02 Dyna 95" motor, installed the C/E after going through 2 HD regs., installed the C/E in 2007 before Sturgis. My father-in-law always side, "you get what you pay for".

When you say "stators burning out," what exactly do you mean? Any photos of a burnt one? How much current are you trying to get out of it?

as far as amperage goes i dont think im asking that much more than stock, i have a 6” lightbar and i usually charge my phone and sena while riding (sometimes at the same time) im not really looking for the amperage upgrade as much as not having the crappy 06 hd stators that dont last.

ill see if i can attach pictures but its pretty clear to see its heat thats destroying them, the 3 coils nearest the wires will loosen up and wires melt out of em as you can see on this one, the wire didnt snag anything, it just got hot as hell. Even the coating on them is brittle and crumbles off. Its gotten a rectifier before as well, brand new and nothing changed.

I checked for em, when i looked on the site though i couldnt find one for my model, although at this point i figure i can just throw a 08 model stator, rectifier and rotor on mine and call it a day

Looks like you have a short going on somewhere provided the regulator has been changed during at least one of those stator changes. Those stators look like they are going full output all the time. While yes, I know they all do it and the regulator shorts the excess to ground, something is putting most all of it to a ground short. Normal operating temps shouldn’t be killing these this quick.
