Default Attn Canadian!!!!

Now that our dollar is par we need to start questioning the prices we pay up here. I went into a shop today and asked how much for a set of Kuryakyns forward controls and was quoted $469.00. I told them you can buy them for under $300 in the US. Of course I got the "we are looking at the Kuryakyn list rates. HELLO, the list is $399.00 I ask where does the extra $70 come in. Shipping and duty. There is no duty on motorcycle part form MFN and the shipping is $20.00 form US to Canada or less, I work for FedEx, I know, and no one sells parts at MSRP. We are getting ripped off and we need to let them know our business is going to suppliers in the US.

I've been buying most of my m/c parts in the States for the past year, on my road trips. And its not just m/c parts. Book, electronics, cars, are all way higher than they should be up here.

Mickey, I was up in Calgary about three weeks ago and stopped in the local HD shop out near the airport there; you are getting ripped off!! I looked around, and even though the dollar rate is about 1.00us to .95 Canada, everything was outrageous!, I just assumed it was because of tariffs..I'd ask around and mail order if you can, good luck!

I have been ordering my stuff from the US for years, I live close to the boarder so its an easy hop down to my mailbox to get the stuff but its still a pain going through customs both ways. I know more are going down to buy new cars..saving 10000 or more on the same car.

It's not so free /healthcare/,we just pay more taxes, that's why HD parts are more expensive here than in US,Mat

Could be worse, HD could be a Britsh company and you 'd be paying 3 times the price on some parts and a third more for the bike itself.

Your right, the problem isn't HD it is the Companies that have the distribution right in their prospective countries.

Default RE: Attn Canadian!!!!

I put down a deposit a couple of weeks ago for a 2008 Super Glide Custom here in Toronto and I asked to have it ready for March 2008. I asked the sales guy if the list prices will drop again here in Canada before I pick up the bike in the spring and he indicated that it wouldn't surprise him if Deeley (the Canadian distributor for HD) adjusted the prices again. He seemed to think that they adjusted the prices 4 times per year based on currency fluctuations and to correspond with the phased orders that they place with HD in the USA. He indicated that the price I paid for the bike would be adjusted down if the list price dropped before I picked it up. Here's hoping to another adjustment. The current List price of the FXDC in Canada is CDN$15,169. The US list price is only US$12,995. There is no duty because of Free Trade, everyone pays a Freight charge when you buy the bike so the only extra fees should be some customs clearing charges (estimate $250 if part of a bulk shipment). Given the US and CDN dollar are now equal, it seems to me that there is still $2,000 worth of extra charges in the Canadian price that someone (i.e. Deeley) is pocketing. I don't mind paying a bit extra but $2,000 is enough to encourage people to drive over the border to Buffalo to save some bucks. I suspect that the price will drop again (probably not the full $2K but somewhere in the middle) before the spring riding season is upon us. An artificial price difference just encourages chronic "Grey Marketing" and this typically kills the local dealers.

Any thoughts?

Jordan.
