Default Charcoal Canister?

I think my '07 Street Bob is the only bike I've seen with a funky charcoal canister on the front. I leave in California so I figured it was a Cali thing, but a friend of mine purchased an '07 Softail Deluxe (California bike) and he doesn't have one.

What's the deal?

I thought all the CA bikes had to have em. I have one too, (thank you aafes). Do a search on emmisions canister, there has already been a lot said about em.

A lot of people take them off. My fatboy (a CA model) deosn't have one as it had been taken off before I purchased it, however the wife's sporty has one and I am yet to take it off.

You can thank your CARB for that one... ( Calif Air Something-or-another ) My bike was a factory CA bike. It no longer has the canister on it. It's a pretty simple procedure to remove it. I did it 'right' and bought the HD rubber plug and it only set me back like $3.99.

I used to get asked all the time, 'Hey, what is that thing?' It really serves no other purpose than making the front of your bike look eff'edup...

I figured every new bike sold in Cali would have one, but was just wondering when a friend purchased a new '07 Softail and his didn't come with one from the dealer. His was probably displayed onthe showroom floor and the stealer didn't install it.
I have heard these things fall off sometimes....

All CA bikes have the canister. On the softtail it is well hidden below the rear shock. The uglist canister location in on CA spec BMWs![:'(]

Hey, someone who keeps their toolbag in that spot might take offense!
OK, I'm over it, LOL.
