almost lost it !!!!!
Going about 20 MPH, leaving home yesterday AM, about 2 blocks from where I live, sun not quite up yet and a f**king dog came out of the bushes on my right side. All of a sudden he was there, and my front tire ran over it, then my rear tire. i don't believe that I didn't go down !!!!!Wobbled like hell, but was able to stop upright. The dog got up and ran up a driveway..that was all I saw of it. Almost had to go back home and change my clothes. I looked over my bike...no damage. When I got home I noticed some dried something on my front rim, that came off..Maybe some slobber from his head ????
Anyways it really pisses me off that some people have a dog, but let them run free. Most of my neighbors have chain link fences. If I do see that dog again, I'll try to find the owners and give them a piece of my mind. Good thing I didn't have my .38 on me !! I guess if I had been going faster, I would've been down !!!

That sucks! I would have probably swerved and lost itif it was something thatbig.
It's too bad you can't do on these bikes what we use to do in the neighborhood on BMX bikes back in the early 80's where you would bunny hop stuff in the road, over curbs, on to sidewalks, etc
I was taking a cruise during a lunch break the other week on my newest SuperGlide in a neighborhood that has a lot of hills and cool turns, nice houses and (unfortunately) lots of deer. Sure enough, as I turned the corner going only about 20 or so (can't recall), I noticed only feet in front of me that two deer were crossing the road. Slowing down, I still just barely missed hitting the tail end of the biggest deer (last deer to cross) and i was so close thati could hearherhooves scrapping the cement.
The deer's head was about as high as mine on the bike or heigher and was looking right at me, seemingly calm but you could see fear in the eyes, and her bottom part was just running and scratching to get traction so she could get the hell outt of my way! It was a surreal, lunch time break experience.
Be careful out there, give yourself plenty of reaction time by increaseing the distance between yourself and people around you!

****, I didn't have time to swerve. I think the dog was waiting in some bushes off the right side of the road. Heard me coming, and went right in front of my front tire. I found some more foul-smelling goop on my rear tire and saddle bags last nite. I'm definately gonna wash the bike this weekend.
I was comng out of Durango, Co a number of years ago early in the AM, went around a curve and there were 2 deer standing there. Like you, I actually heard their hooves scraping on the pavement. I came to a real controlled stop (I surprised myself). I had drag pipes at that time (didn't know any better), and I was surprised that I heard their hooves..Something you don't forget!
Ride safe

Now that the dog has been hit, he might know better than to run at you again! I had a problem with a white german shepard near the edge of town for a while in a small town I lived in. I talked to the local cop and he loaned me a sawed off shotgun to deal with the situation. The dog only ran at me one more time!

I'm usually a vivid black fan, but lately I've been testing other colors.
Anyway, I like your red FXDI!
As much as I love riding...I rarely ride the bike to shopping centers or anywhere you might have small children and distracted parents...a friend of mine hit a 4 year old as he ran out behind a mini van at a local wal mart...he wasn't going fast 10 or 15mph and didn't drop the bike...but it hurt the little boy pretty bad. That scares me more than hitting a dog or deer!
