Noticed fuel leaking from the fuel line/petcock connection yesterday. Went to gently remove the fuel line from the petcock to inspect and clean up. When I loosened the clamp to remove the line, the brass male tube came right out of the plastic petcock housing. I called my HD dealer. Asked if it can be repaired or glued. Guy said "no way". They can special order it, or I can replace with an aftermarket ranging from $20-$100. I can't do special order. So, I'm sitting there thinking "what the hell. I'll try and glue it anyway" Cleaned it up good, inside and out. Placed a little bit of Super Glue! on the brass fitting and shoved it back in. Trimed and reatatched the fuel line. Ran for a couple mins - no leaks. Rode to work today - no leaks. Just checked again - no leaks. If it starts to leak, I'll probably replace with a Pingle petcock.

Question: If I replace with AF (Pingle or other gravity feed)petcock, what do I do with the vacuum line connection?

If the aftermarket petcock does not require vacuum you have to plug the line. You can not leave a vacuum line open.

 

I replaced mine with a Pingle, and put a rubber nipple over the vacuum port on the manifold.

 

Thanks guys. How do you like the Pingle petcock? Is it worth the high dollar $100 price, compared to other aftermarket petcocks?

You're living on borrowed time. Crazy glue is not going to last. It's going to fail at the worst possible time, and then you're hosed.

For aftermarket petcocks, Pingle is very good. I used one for many miles without any problems.

But, you don't need an expensive racing part. The pingle is designed to be a high flow unit, for engines that need that kind of flow. You don't. You can get a decent Sifton part for a lot less. If you scout around you can find a used factory take off for just a few bux.

 

I had issues with cheaper ones seeping fuel in the "off" position. The Pingle has been rock solid.
