For a chrome clutch cover remove oil?
Hello,
I have got a chrome clutch cover, right side where the cable goes, and will replace the original one.
I have a question, do I have to remove the transmission oil before, or just leanning on the stand will be ok?
A bit lassy bone question...
Thanks
I just changed my clutch cable (to braided ) and i had to drain the tranny oil as per manual.
Not 100% but i think the other guys assume you mean the derby cover which covers the clutch basket.

+1 on what HG Doctor said
I replaced the cable after a bone headed ham handed mistake. Was installing the Chrome cover over the clutch cable that goes into the cover. *****!! The dang cable housing snapped off inside the cover. zoiks scoob!Used a rag and a screw drive to pry the cable away from the Tranny so I could instal thetwo half's that cover up the cable. Didn't drain the Tranny but about 1/4 of a quart came out after the cover was removed. topped it off and good to go.
If you haven't already this would be a good time to switch to a good synthetic in your tranny like Amsoil or Mobil 1 75-90 gear lube therfore drain it. If you have already switched just do as HG Doc says and top off after you are finished.

a couple of good suggestions there, drain the oil and do the work then refill with synthetic oil, that's the best time, also make sure you have a good pair of snap ring pliers you'll need them, if you don't have a service manual, take notes during the process, helpful hint put some grease on the three ramp ***** to help hold them in place during the assembly. good luck.

Thank you for your help. I think I will do as proposed to lift up a bit and to lean on the stand. That should make an easier access too.
I have the Clymer manual and the proper tools, no problem on that side. My dealer installed 2 years ago an easy clutch already.
What would be the benefit of the synthetic oil in the tranny? I have the original oil now. What will be the differences?
Which oil to put and that I can find here in Germany?
Thanks guys
